Choosing PACS for a hospital
A picture archiving and communication system, or PACS, should match the way a hospital receives, reviews and shares imaging. The useful questions are about people, locations and existing systems.
Start with the daily path
Follow one study from registration to scan, report, review and distribution. Note where staff copy information, wait for access or lose track of a report. This gives the implementation team a concrete workflow to support.
Choose the setup deliberately
A local server installation can support browser access on the hospital network. A cloud setup can help teams work from different locations. A hybrid setup can combine local access with cloud collaboration. Ask how each option would work at your sites instead of treating one model as universal.
Plan integrations and access
Identify the hospital systems, DICOM devices and report destinations that need to connect. Confirm who needs access and what they need to do. A short pilot with representative studies and users can reveal missing steps before a wider rollout.
