Managing a remote radiology worklist

A remote worklist should answer three questions at a glance: what arrived, who owns it and what happens next. Keep the status model simple enough for every centre and radiologist to use consistently.

Keep statuses useful

Use a small group of states such as received, assigned, reporting, review and complete. Define when a case changes state and who can make that change. Make a separate process for cases that need more information rather than hiding them in the main queue.

Assign with context

Give assigners the details they need to select a radiologist and track the handoff. Avoid depending on assumptions about availability or specialty. The team can agree assignment rules that reflect its own coverage model.

Review status data together

Look at completed cases, returned cases and cases waiting for review. Discuss patterns with the people doing the work, then adjust the workflow or training. Status tracking is most useful when it leads to a clear next action.
