Working with a remote reporting team
Remote reporting works when the clinical and operational handoffs are clear. A written workflow helps centres and radiologists handle routine studies and exceptions in the same way.
Agree the responsibilities
Document who checks incoming studies, assigns them, answers missing-information questions and reviews reports. Include how urgent cases are identified and how a team escalates a blocked case. These responsibilities should be clear to both the sending centre and reporting team.
Make report review visible
Decide which reports need a review step and who can approve them. Use statuses that show whether a report is in progress, ready for review or complete. Keep the radiologist responsible for reviewing and finalising their report.
Check communication routes
Choose where clinical questions, technical questions and billing questions go. Confirm how reports and images are shared with authorised recipients. A short operating guide is more useful than relying on informal messages.
