Planning a teleradiology workflow

A teleradiology workflow needs clear handoffs before it needs more software. Start by mapping who receives a study, who assigns it, who reports it and who verifies the final report.

Map the people and handoffs

List each centre that sends studies and the people who can assign, report, review and share them. Decide what should happen when a study is incomplete, urgent or needs a second review. A shared status is more useful when every team uses the same meaning for it.

Set up worklists around the work

Keep worklists practical: received, assigned, in reporting, ready for review and complete may be enough. Agree how assignments are made and how a radiologist returns a case for clarification. Avoid assuming that the system will choose a specialty or priority without a team rule behind it.

Check the finishing steps

Confirm how approved reports and images reach clinicians or patients, and which team can see each status. If clients need billing visibility, include that handoff in the workflow. Review the process with a small set of real cases before expanding it.
